Located roughly halfway between Coney Island and Prospect Park, the neighborhood of Midwood is bound by the freight line tracks of Bay Ridge Branch to the north, Avenue P and Kings Highway to the south, Nostrand Avenue/Flatbush Avenue to the east, and Ocean Parkway/McDonald Avenue/Coney Island Avenue to the west. Part of the Brooklyn borough, the name Midwood comes from the Dutch word “Midwout,” which means “middle woods.” The neighborhood is deeply rooted in both the film and television production industries; several studios such as Vitagraph (later bought out by Warner Bros.) and NBC Brooklyn (now JC Studios) have called the Midwood neighborhood home.
